CLOUGH AND TAYLOR ERA

In there first season with the club Derby finished one place lower than the previous season , the next season Derby won the 2nd Division title gaining promotion to Division 1 where in the first season clough and Taylor's side finished 4th place which was the  best league finish for the Rams in 20 years following that Derby could'nt compete in Europe becuase of financial reasons despite qualifacting by finishing 4th and was fined for not being able to compete. In the 1970-71 season the club finished 9th.The following season (the 1971-72 season) the club were crowned English Champions. As English champions  the Rams were playing in Europe, where according to many Derby were cheated out of the European Cup semi finals by Juventus. Clough and Taylor never had a great relationship with the board and especially Sam Longson. Both Brian and Peter resigned on 15 October 1973 much to the fans anger. Some fans say Derby could of been a huge football club like the likes of Man United if Clough and Taylor would of stayed.

DAVE MACKAY MANAGEMENT

Dave Mackay, who played for Derby under Clough, was appointed Manager of Derby after the departure of Clough and Taylor. In Mackay's second season he won The 1st Division title and made the Rams become English Champions for the second time.
